It is with great sorrow we offer condolences to the victims, families, and community of Tumbler Ridge. We will not let senseless acts of violence steal meaning from our lives. Let us lift the memories of those lost with honour and compassion.
I am grateful for the house. I spent 4.5 months in the bush. I feel safe here. Food is great. All the staff have treated me like a person and not like someone coming through the house. The room is nice and quiet. Being here has allowed me to see and speak to my kid daily. I have been able to move forward because I have not had to worry about surviving. - CE

Our Vision and Mission
Mentally Healthy People in a Healthy Society
Founded in 1918, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is a national charity that helps maintain and improve mental health for all Canadians. As the nation-wide leader and champion for mental health, CMHA promotes the mental health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness.
In BC, mental health, substance use and addictive behaviour are within the scope of the organization.
Through our family of over 100 local, provincial and national locations across Canada, CMHA provides a wide range of innovative services and supports tailored to and in partnership with our communities. Mental health begins where you live, learn, work and play. Together, we are making a difference.
“The Canadian Mental Health Association – Port Alberni Branch is dedicated to providing programs and services that foster individual growth and promote mental wellness, leading to the development of strong families and a healthy community.”
“We believe that the following principles are essential to mental health and a personally satisfying quality of life: Support, Inclusion, Empowerment, Compassion, Responsibility, Respect and Social Justice.”
CMHA Port Alberni is an accredited organization through Imagine Canada’s Standards Program, located on the traditional territories of the Hupačasath and Tseshaht peoples.
